RAVI : Résidences-Ateliers Vivegnis International soutient la création actuelle dans le domaine des Arts plastiques.
A Liège, l’établissement d’un pôle artistique dans le quartier Saint-Léonard, et plus particulièrement sur le site Vivegnis, fait partie intégrante du projet de Ville 2007-2015, dont l’un des objectifs est de favoriser la création et l’échange de talents. Le choix du quartier s’est imposé naturellement : près de 200 artistes et associations culturelles y sont recensés. Le choix du site également : Vivegnis combine des projets de logements, d’espaces publics et de centres dédiés au secteur économique et aux activités artistiques : la présence dans un périmètre restreint de la brasserie Haecht, des espaces SmartBe, d’E2N ou du centre d’entreprises de la Spi+ témoigne d’une concentration d’opérateurs résolument tournés vers l’avenir.
Défini en collaboration avec la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, le projet Résidences-Ateliers Vivegnis International associe des logements en appartement neuf (Vivegnis Housing) et des ateliers d’artistes aménagés dans un ancien bâtiment industriel réaffecté à cette fin. La gestion quotidienne est assurée par une équipe de coordination attachée à la Ville de Liège. Les artistes bénéficient en outre d’une bourse, d’outils de diffusion de leur travail (site internet, publications, expositions…) et de l’appui d’une personne-ressource qui veille au bon déroulement des résidences, oriente les professionnels du secteur et propose des rencontres avec d’autres créateurs. Parmi les missions des RAVI figure également le développement d’un programme de mobilité et d’échanges pour les créateurs de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.
Avec les RAVI, la Ville de Liège souhaite aider les artistes à développer leur pratique mais aussi les appeler à s’engager dans des débats et à composer avec les éléments de leur environnement. Il s’agit également de relever l’ancrage du projet dans la ville et dans le quartier Saint-Léonard, selon un des axes de la politique culturelle qui vise à créer les conditions du dialogue entre l’artiste et la société. La vocation de cet outil est de servir un rayonnement qui articule le local à l’international et participe à l’inscription de Liège sur la carte du monde.

The Résidences-Ateliers Vivegnis International fall within the tradition of participating in the development of the visual arts sector, an area to which the City of Liège has devoted continual attention.
In Liège, the establishment of an arts centre in the Saint-Léonard neighbourhood, and more particularly on the site of Vivegnis, constitutes an integral part of the city plan for 2007-2015 (Projet de Ville 2007-2015), one of the objectives of which is to promote the development and exchange of talents. The choice of the neighbourhood has been a natural one: it is home to some 200 artists and cultural associations. The choice of the site was just as self-evident: Vivegnis combines housing, public spaces and centres for economic and artistic activities: the presence within close quarters of the historic Haecht Brasserie, SmartBe, E2N and the Spi+ commercial centre represents a concentration of actors turned resolutely toward the future.Defined in collaboration with the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the Résidences-Ateliers Vivegnis International project brings together residential apartments (Vivegnis Housing) and artists’ studios housed in a former industrial building redeveloped for the purpose. The daily management is in the hands of a coordination team with ties to the City of Liège. The artists also have access to a grant, to tools for disseminating their work (website, publications, exhibitions, etc.) and to the support of a resource person who looks after the smooth operation of the residences, engages in outreach to professionals in the sector and organises meetings with other creative artists. Yet another of RAVI’s missions is to develop a mobility and exchange programme for artists from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
With RAVI, the City of Liège wishes to help artists develop their practice as well as to invite them to take part in current debates and to engage with elements from their environment. If we wish to engage, in a structural and sustainable dynamic, in promoting the contemporary visual arts, we must also ensure that the project is rooted in the city and in the Saint-Léonard neighbourhood and along one of the main axes of its cultural policy intended to lay down the conditions necessary for a dialogue between the artist and society. Along these lines, we are particularly keen to see a synergy develop between the residences and the Liège school system. The vocation of this project is to work for the dissemination of the arts in a way that forges links between the local and the international levels and does its part to put Liège on the world map.
